Vancouver Area Blepharoplasty for the Lower Lids
Under-eye puffiness can be the result of heredity, aging, or both. As we grow older, the skin and muscle of the lower lid lose elasticity, and the fat can become more prominent under the eyes. These bags are often associated with a fatigued appearance and contribute the dark circles that can be difficult to cover with make-up. Dr. Mosher's Vancouver area blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) patients are often concerned with appearing tired even when they are rested.
Lower eyelid surgery can restore a smoother, more youthful appearance to the skin beneath the eyes, and repair lower eyelids that sag downward. During your consultation, Dr. Mosher will discuss with you your nonsurgical options, such as skin care treatments and filling the tear troughs using soft tissue augmentation, as well as your different options for lower eyelid surgery. He will work with you to determine the procedure or combination of procedures that will best achieve your cosmetic goals.

About Lower Eyelid Surgery
Lower eyelid surgery is performed to remove excess skin and reduce the appearance of fat pouches beneath the eyes. For patients throughout British Columbia, blepharoplasty at YES Medspa and Cosmetic Surgery Centre can help smooth wrinkles, eliminate puffiness, and restore a more youthful look to the under eye area. Dr. Mosher also performs canthopexy, a specialized procedure for patients whose lower eyelids sag downward at the outer corners.
Your Blepharoplasty Procedure
Dr. Mosher performs lower eyelid surgery at his surgery centre using local anesthesia with sedation or light general anesthesia, both of which allow for a pain free experience and a rapid recovery. Dr. Mosher will recommend either a well-concealed incision beneath the lower lashes or a scarless approach called transconjunctival blepharoplasty. If there is a significant degree of excess, wrinkled skin, Dr. Mosher may recommend the traditional approach, which uses a very fine incision and allows for optimal smoothing of skin and alteration of underlying tissues. If your main concern is the removal of fatty pouches, Dr. Mosher may recommend the scarless approach, which is done through the inside of the lower lid. This technique allows for the removal and repositioning of fat beneath the eyes to create a firmer, smoother appearance.
Recovery and Results
Most of Dr. Mosher's British Columbia blepharoplasty patients experience only mild discomfort after lower eyelid surgery. Some bruising and swelling is to be expected, but this usually diminishes within 2 to 3 weeks. You may resume wearing contact lenses and makeup after 4 or 5 days, but strenuous activities should be avoided for at least 2 weeks.
For a complete rejuvenation of the eye area, many patients also have upper eyelid surgery and BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments performed along with lower lid blepharoplasty. Dr. Mosher will take the time to discuss all of your surgical and nonsurgical options with you, and will make recommendations as to the best treatment plan for achieving your desired results.
