The Technology
At YES Medspa, we use Syneron™ lasers, which utilize a combination of both radiofrequency (RF) and optical energy known as elos™ technology. This exciting development in laser technology has made laser hair removal more effective and more comfortable on most skin and hair types. Most older laser systems worked most effectively only in cases with dark hair and light skin, because the optical energy used targeted the pigment in the hair shaft. This meant that those with lighter hair or darker skin might not get optimal results. Due to the incorporation of radiofrequency energy, which targets the hair follicle directly, elos™ based systems can achieve superior results in varying skin and hair colorations. Your Laser Hair Removal Procedure
After you have consulted with our highly experienced technicians to determine whether laser hair reduction is right for you, you will begin your series of laser treatments only after your program is discussed directly with Dr. Mosher. Hair in the area to be treated is closely trimmed and the skin is covered with a cool and clear gel. The technician passes the wand slowly over the treated area, delivering the optical and radiofrequency energy.
Treating small areas like the face, underarms, bikini area or lower abdomen takes just a few minutes. Larger areas like the arms, back or legs can take 30 to 60 minutes. There is minimal discomfort followed by a brief redness in the treated area. A soothing cream with sunscreen is usually applied prior to you resuming your normal activities.
An average of 6 treatments is necessary for optimal hair reduction. This is because only the actively growing hairs are affected during each treatment session. Resting or dormant follicles will not be destroyed until the follicles begin producing mature hair. Treatment intervals are usually spaced 3-4 weeks apart to improve the efficiency of achieving lasting hair growth reduction. Clients must avoid sun tanning the treated areas between treatments but normal hair reduction practices such as shaving and waxing do not need to be discontinued. After a series of treatments, most patients experience a significant reduction in the amount of hair that grows in the area, and the remaining hair is finer and lighter. Follow up or "maintenance" treatments may be recommended to achieve superior results and are very affordable.
